There are differences in the two main strains of marijuana, indica and sativa and they are differences the grower should be aware of when choosing the type of seeds they want for planting. There are differences in the way they grow, the yield and there are also differences in the type of high the smoker will have.
- Indica when grown is a short plant that will in most cases be less than 6 feet in height, the leaves will be short and wide and dark green in color, and can also have a purple tint. The branches are thick, dense and short. The buds on the indica plants will mature usually when planted outdoors in the beginning of September and can be in colors between dark green and purple depending on the temperatures. The buds also can have problems maturing in colder temperatures in northern climates
.One of the other characteristics is that the smell of the indica buds when smoked has a nasty smell and smoking the pot often makes the person cough. This is a pot strain when smoked that is a relaxing high, it is a pot that the high is sociable and there are some indica strains that are made for a night of relaxation, rather than the more intense high of some weed.
This marijuana strain was originally found in Afghanistan, India, Pakistan and other areas of that region, which gives it the ability to be grown in hot climates and adapt to rain soaked ground. This is also one of the strains of cannabis that has many varieties that are easy for the new grower to have a successful first harvest and can be found in mixes and hybrids.
- Sativa is another of the cannabis strains and is able to grow to maturity reaching over 6 feet and in some cases can even grow as high as 25 feet, however most of the varieties that outdoor growers use will grow between 8 and 12 feet. The leaves of this strain of marijuana are opposite of the indica, they are long and thin, and are a light green color. They have long branches that on the bottom can grow as long as 4 feet or more from the stalk. The buds are also different than the indica strain, being longer in length and can elongate as much as 3 feet on the leaves and will be a dark orange or red in warmer climates and in colder northern climates can be purple tinted.
The sativa marijuana when smoked is the opposite of the indica, with sweet fruity smelling buds that can have an apple aroma and is smooth to inhale. The smoker will find the high is also the opposite of the indica with a cerebral energetic high, and can be a body buzz instead of the relaxing indica high. This is a strain that can be found in Mexico, Columbia, Nigeria and South Africa and today it can be found in many crosses and hybrid cannabis seeds.
The outdoor grower depending on their location will find that the plants will mature in warmer climates as early as August and September and in cooler climates the harvest can be expected in the end of September into mid October. This is a strain of cannabis that is not as easy to grow as the indica, but the grower that is educated prior to planting will still be able to have a crop that will produce a yield that will be worth the work.
The difference between the two marijuana strains differ in both the high and the growing, with indica the relaxing body high and the sativa a energetic body buzz that the smoker will not only enjoy the feeling, but also will be able to be active.
