Along with the other dangers for an outdoor crop, like animals, insects, and people discovering the crop before it is mature enough to be harvested, there is one other danger. This danger is fungus, and it is something that can hit any outdoor crop of marijuana, left untreated it can destroy the plants or rot the buds.
Certain temperatures are the perfect breeding ground for fungus on marijuana plants, and the temperatures are between 60 and 80 degrees, along with high humidity. When cannabis is hit with a fungus it will travel through the crop quickly and can be very destructive to the plants, because it is able to be transferred across the plant and also to other plants by the wind, which is one of the other risks of the outdoor cannabis crop. When the grower finds that the crop has fungus, there are some things that can be done, such as removing the entire branch that has the fungus and taking it away from the crop so that the fungus cannot infect any other branches or plants. This needs to be done very carefully, since this is an airborne spore that can travel when the diseased branch is being moved. Gloves should also be worn and discarded prior to touching any of the healthy plants in the crop, as it is possible to transfer the fungus to the other plants by handling the diseased branches.
