When time comes for the grower to harvest the marijuana crop experience and education in growing will know that they should do several things, the first is to stop watering approximately a week prior to harvest. This will begin harvesting process and the drying of the cannabis plants, and along with the hours of darkness that can be increased also with the indoor crop.
The next step when harvesting the marijuana is for the grower to us scissors and trim off the fan leaves; these are leaves that are not able to be smoked, so they can be discarded. The cannabis plants can then be pulled by the roots and hung upside down for several days. There is also the method that some growers use that with the use of razors, which will be used to trim off the bud leaves.
After the plants have been harvested it is time to dry them and one of the ways of doing this is to use paper bags for several days and then when the moisture has come out of the plants they are then put into plastic or glass containers to complete the drying process. When this step is taken the grower must check on them daily and move them around to ensure equal drying. If there is any acrid odor coming from the container, then the grower should immediately take them out of the container and lay them out on paper. This odor means that the harvest was put into containers to early while it still contained too much moisture and is at risk for becoming moldy. Mold will make the harvest so that it cannot be smoked. Smoking moldy marijuana will not only taste horrid, it is also inhaling poison into the body.
